Rock Hard

Rock Kiss #2

Wealthy businessman Gabriel Bishop rules the boardroom with the same determination and fast-review-upruthlessness that made him a rock star on the rugby field. He knows what he wants, and he’ll go after it no-holds-barred.

And what he wants is Charlotte Baird.

Charlotte knows she’s a mouse. Emotionally scarred and painfully shy, she just wants to do her job and remain as invisible as possible. But the new CEO—a brilliant, broad-shouldered T-Rex of a man who growls and storms through the office, leaving carnage in his wake—clearly has other plans. Plans that may be equal parts business and bedroom.

If Charlotte intends to survive this battle of wits and hearts, the mouse will have to learn to wrangle the T-Rex. Game on.

review

As you can see, Rock Hard was a great read for me. I waited, excited and impatient, for it to be in my hand and when I started reading it I was in the perfect state of mind to appreciate it wholly. I’m not saying it is perfect because it has its low moments. I’m just saying it was right for me in that moment and then Nalini’s magic did the rest. Therefore for me it’s a full five star book.

The first time I was drawn to Charlie and Gabriel was when I first read Rock Addiction, the first book of this new series. Even then, these two characters where perfectly defined and were showing us that something that speak about great things to come in a romance book. Something that can maybe be classic, speaking of the story, because here we don’t have rock stars at all instead Charlie is an employee and Gabriel is the new CEO of the company where Charlie has worked in the last years. Nonetheless, Rock Hard will leave you with an heart filled to burst and with an eager sigh on your lips.

Gabriel is an ex rugby pro player. He is a strong character that will reminds you of the Alpha males we are used to in the Psy/Changeling series. He is very protective and, if you don’t behave, he can growl at you as a SnowDancer wolf. 😉 Charlie, on the other hand, is a character that develops during the book. Starting as a little mouse afraid of her shadow, with Grabriel’s help (and their banter) she slowly blossoms. I liked her very much. Her strength and courage that, during the book, will allow her to regain a freedom long lost.
Gabriel as well has his dark moments linked to a difficult childhood, but Charlie’s love will help him deal.

In conclusion, a must read for Nalini’s fan and for those who are in search of a classic romance story that will have the effect of making your heartbeat increase and ruin you to all the real boyfriends out there.

“Charlotte arrived at work at seven thirty the next morning to find Gabriel Bishop’s office door open, but no carnivorous predator inside.”

Gabriel’s growling so… be careful of what you are going to say.

Noir et Bleu MC club #1

99% of bikers obey the law. The other 1% make their own…

Eighteen-year-old Tienne Desrochers grew up in the rough world of the Noir et Bleu Motorcycle Club. Bikers. Family. Outlaws. But after her dad’s murder, she decides she’s had enough. Refusing to end up like her drug-addicted mom, Tienne grabs her younger brother and leaves it all behind…including her boyfriend, Aiden Gyllenhall.

More comfortable in the middle of a bar fight than at a country club, living with her wealthy aunt and uncle is an adjustment, to say the least. No swearing. Designer shoes that pinch. And fast-review-upcharming, corporate types like Leland Crofton instead of super-sexy, tattooed Aiden. But even the upper class can’t escape the toxic touch of underworld violence. And this time, Tienne won’t just learn who she really is—she’ll learn who has her back.

review
If you’re the daughter of an MC member and engaged to another one…how can you leave that violent life behind? Fortunately for Tienne and her brother, it seems that life is starting to change in better. After her dad is killed her aunt and uncle have taken her and her brother to live with them. In that glamorous part of the city the most frightening thing that can happen to you is to wear the wrong dress to the country club. Been beaten or murdered along the road, to assist to the lenght your mother would go to have a dose… she can now leave all that in the past. Her brother can be what he is, without fear of reprisals, and she can follow her dream of becoming an actress.

“I know.” I give him one of my pillows and lay facing him. “You don’t have to take care of her, you know. She never took care of us.” “I want to.” I smile and brush his bangs away from his eyes. “Have you got your outfit picked out for your first day at a fancy private school?” “Flat front trousers and an argyle sweater. How about you? What are you wearing to your first day at a corporate job?” “Frumpy skirt and grandma blouse.” “Sexy.” I laugh. “Night, Lucky Boy.” “Night, T Bear.”

There is only one shadow that hovers over her. It’s the think of leaving Aiden, her best friend since childhood…her boyfriend now. The love of her life. However, she must leave him. He is a member of the MC club and she doesn’t want anything to do with that life anymore.

“What’s wrong, sweetheart?” Everything. I can’t imagine my life without Aiden, but I can imagine it with him, and it’s not good. “Will you pick me up in front of my old house, please?” “Of course. Are you all right?” “No.” “What happened?” I exhale and glance down the street I grew up on. All the shitty old houses with the chewed-up lawns and beat-up cars out front. “I don’t want my mom and dad’s life. I want a fresh start.” “I’ll be right there.”

And then… then there is Leland. So… so obvious in his pursuit, but oh so charming…and better yet, so right in this new life of her. The easier thing to do is to be with him.
To be normal. To fit in.
Even if this is wounding both her heart and Aiden’s.

One Percenter is not really an MC story. The story follows Tienne and is focused on her growth. On her struggle to find her way, to be better and not make the same mistakes of her parents. The path she has chosen, however, is not the easiest and dangers can be found in every place, not only in the most obvious one.
To find her happiness she will have to fight…and fight hard.

review

Ok, not really sure what to say about this book because…there is not much more other than sex in it. We can start with a short pro&cons list.

Pros:
-hot biker dudes
-HOT biker dudes who are also very sweet
-really hot sex scenes
-the cover

Cons:
-there isn’t a strong plot that gives a sense to the book
-during the story the main characters lose consistency
-really HOT and heavy sex scenes that can be too much for someone

Laurie is having a bit of a predicament seeing that her boyfriend is out of control and is trying to take charge of every aspect of her life… in and out of bed. Especially in bed where he has started to show interests that are more those of a psychopath than that of a lover. A situation that is starting to scare her badly and from which she wants to get away quickly.
The solution comes in the form of a nomad MC Club to whom Laurie’s brother has asked help.
When one of the Club assist to Laurie getting beaten by her boyfriend, he didn’t find other way to save the day than to kidnap her and bring her to where the club is currently staying, a country house nested in the woods.
However, is Laurie happy to be safe (and almost sound)? Oh no! She wants only to escape the people who helped her and are trying to protect her.

Ok, I can understand that in the beginning it could have seemed to her to have gone from a bad situation to another even worse. Even so, after the first night when no-one tried to hurt her in any way she should have changed her mind. Especially because, finally, she has someone who can help her getting rid of the asshole who is making her life a living hell. Another bonus is that she finds the leader of the group, Steele, very attractive… so why leave!? Try, at least, to gain something good from the mess you’re in.

The rest of the book is nearly only scenes of “group sex” or “couple sex” (more of the former). Dressed with a burst of jealousy (from Steele) that has not really sense seing that “what is mine is yours” in the code of the Club, much confusion (from both of them), another kidnapping and almost rape (from the asshole) and…other sex (from all of them).

Then, near the end, the author start to speak of Steele as dominant…but she doesn’t make him do things that can make you see him as one (≪Woman, do as I say!≫ is not one of those things). He is “only” a big, gorgeous, sexy man who is very free in his interest for sex and has a strong will. There is nothing about a relationship dom-sub between the two and speaking of it is too much and too late.

In conclusion, if you are in search of something that doesn’t have a strong plot but has many heavy sex scenes and whose only purpose is  to make you pass a couple of hours of fun, this is the book for you. Otherwise it’s better if you go find something else.

ELIZABETH BRIGGS: More Than Music (Chasing the Dream, 1)

Ultima lettura, fresca fresca di questi giorni, è questo carinissimo romanzo -More Than Music– dell’autrice americana esordiente Elizabeth Briggs.

BLURB

Music major Maddie Taylor just finished her junior year of college and has a summer internship lined up with the LA Philharmonic, yet every night she practices guitar and secretly dreams of a louder life. But geeky girls like her don’t get to be rock stars. That is, until tattooed singer Jared Cross catches her playing guitar and invites her to join his band on The Sound, a reality TV show competition.

Once on the show, Maddie discovers there’s more to Jared than his flirty smile and bad boy reputation – and that he’s just as big a geek as she is. With each performance their attraction becomes impossible to ignore, but when the show pressures them to stay single they’re forced to keep their relationship secret.

As the competition heats up, Jared will do whatever it takes for his band to win, and Maddie must decide if following her dream is worth losing her heart.

TRAMA

Review:

More Than Music is the last New Adult romance novel I’ve discovered…a book that I decided to read straight away after netgalley and the publisher gave it to me (and I can assure you it’s not a common occurrence for me). Hovewer that cover was calling me and who am I to not answer it?
Written by Elizabeth Briggs, it is the first book in a tetralogy (or at the moment goodreads is showing four books…plus some short novellas) called Chasing the Dream.
In the past we have seen NA set in colleges, starring tattoo artist or fighters. MTM is nothing of the sort. It is not set in a college (fortunately, I’m just a bit sick of reading constantly the same things) and, even though some of the characters have tattoos (you know, a tattoo is always cool so a character without one is not…I don’t know…right XD), they are …drumroll…. part of a rock band! And what with their name, Villain Complex? Chapeau to Elizabeth for this. 😉
Anyway, music was the reason that drew me to read this book in the first place and I was hoping for a good change for once. The author didn’t make me regret my choice. In fact, what I didn’t expect was to be so intrigued by the setting, the music reality competition The Sound (practically The Voice, but with some variations).
However the book is not about The Sound but it’s about the birth of a new love, the discovery of yourself and fighting for your dreams.
Jared is the lead singer of Villain Complex and brother of Kyle (keyboardist for the group and main character in More Than Exes, short novella that is set just before MTM) who is also friend to Maddie, a classic musician who, at night, dreams of becoming a rock guitarist.
When Jared and Maddie finally meet in a sort of embarassing Maddie-guitar-revelation/obsession-to-Jared-music something intriguing sparks between the two. Moreover, when the bassist of the group leave the Villain Complex, Jared decides that Maddie can definitely take her place…and join the band in The Sound competition.
But the real show has just begun because when dreams are becoming true you’ll do anything to reach them even if doing so will destroy something more precious.
