Patricia Briggs: quando non leggere in inglese sucks!

Eravamo partiti bene, Fanucci aveva tentato nell’ormai lontano 2010 la pubblicazione di questa serie, una tra le mie preferite. Ma vuoi che in Italia fossero ancora solo gli inizi per il genere urban fantasy, vuoi la brutta (decisamente brutta) copertina, Mercedes Thompson è caduta nel dimenticatoio. Portando con se, ahimè, anche l’altra mini serie spin-off collegata a questa…che è anche una delle mie serie preferite in ASSOLUTO di sempre… la serie Alpha e Omega.
Ragazzi, questo è un altro motivo per cui iniziare a leggere in inglese se ancora non l’aveste capito. C’è seriamente un mondo che vi state perdendo e chi ama leggere non può rimamerne tagliato fuori. Lo so che iniziare sembra impossibile, ma come mi ha sempre detto Weirde (che ha costretto me a farlo), i benefici sono enormi rispetto al piccolo dolore iniziale. 😉 E sopratutto, se ci sono riuscita io, ci può riuscire chiunque, eh!

Oggi vi presento un romanzo, parte di una trilogia (al momento, ma penso proseguirà), che mi ha chiaramente attirato per la splendida copertina del favoloso Dan Dos Santos (autore anche delle copertine di Patricia Briggs) e che stò febbrilmente aspettando mi arrivi da bookdepository. Se non è abbastanza chiaro dall’imagine, questa volta tratta di zombie. Non sono una a cui gli zombie piacciano molto…mi hanno perfino dato fastidio in Warm Bodies…non concepisco corpi in decomposizione che fanno quello che fanno…che sò, andiamo sullo scontato, i vampiri. Lo so, sembra una cosa stupida da dire dato che pure i vampiri, a conti fatti, sono morti. Ma zombie?! Andiamo, perdono pezzi e sono tutti smangiucchiati!
In questo caso, però, sembra che l’autrice abbia trasformato gli zombie, o almeno la sua protagonista, in qualcosa di più “comunemente accettabile” e nonostante la sua fame di cervelli freschi riesce a mantenere quella patina di eroina dannata (viene da un background decisamente tormentato, con problemi di droga e alcolismo) che a noi piace tanto.
Ma, ok, vi saprò dire meglio una volta l’avrò letto se è riuscito a mantenere le aspettative della copertina fashion. 😉

Finished this morning at 4 a.m.
I don’t know what was the reason which forced me to read the book non-stop til the end. I have to admit the plot is a little bit obvious… but the main characters catched my mind completely.
Tyler, hard but so fragile…and also soo hot!

Firm. That’s what I imagined he would look like. For a guy, that was an awesome word, with several positive implications. But for a girl, unless he was talking about your ass, not so much of a compliment

Rory, who knows her incapacity to relate with other people (she’s a complete nerd and, during the text, she is related to Vulcan people from Star Trek because she’s incapable to think as others usually do XD) but she learns how to see inside herself, how to accept her flaws and grow much stronger and confident with herself and her relations, whatever they were of friendship or love.

I sobbed, for the little girl I had been, who had never understood why I didn’t just fit in, and for the realization that I never would. That my life was meant to be walked alone, with a thin plastic barrier pulled taut between me and everyone else, my thoughts never capable of runnin parallel with the majority of human beings.

Because I was standing there, and for the first time, really, I felt like I was of worth, of value, to someone. I was comforting him and that made me feel important.

I also loved the tenderness that Tyler showed so openly for his family. It is refreshing and so hopeful.
I think that obvious sometimes, when you are in the right mood, is not so wrong after all ;).

Being a loner was ultimately selfish, and if you never gave of yourself, you never got in return. The risk of being hurt was higher when you put yourself out there, but it was worth it.

In short, I’m really glad to have read this novel and I have to thank netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity.

Non so veramente cosa mi abbia incollato alle pagine a quel modo, non sono riuscita a staccarmene finchè non sono arrivata all’ultima riga.
Devo ammettere che la trama non è particolarmente originale, ma comunque i protagonisti hanno saputo catturarmi fin da subito e non sono più riuscita e seguire altri che loro. Dovevo assolutamente sapere cosa sarebbe successo di lì a poco…e ogni riga mi ha trascinato sempre più avanti.
Tyler è forte, tatuato e ben provvisto di muscoli. Ma è anche estremamente fragile.
Rory, che sa bene di essere incapace di relazionarsi con le altre persone su un piano paritario (è una nerd fatta e finita, con una mentalità analitica che le impedisce di apprezzare anche la più grossolana sfumatura di un qualsiasi testo letteraio -viene perfino accomunata ad un Vulcaniano di Star Trek per far capire quanto sia incapace di pensare come altri della sua età normalmente fanno-), durante il romanzo la vediamo scrutare dentro di sè, capirsi sempre più e accettarsi…difetti e pregi. Crescere sempre più forte e fiduciosa, di sè e delle relazioni che instaura, che siano di amicizia oppure amore.
E’ stato anche veramente tenero seguire Tyler e scoprire del suo rapporto con i fratelli, la sua unica e Vera famiglia. Sentimenti di una freschezza e speranza infiniti.
Penso quindi che l’ovvio -e non così tanto originale- alle volte, quando si è nel giusto stato d’animo, non sia poi così male tutto sommato.

Sono molto contenta di aver avuto la possibilità di leggere questo romanzo, è stato un dolcissimo intramezzo. 😉

premessa

Questo romanzo è stato una rivelazione per me, anche se erano mesi (se non di più) che Weirde cercava di spingermi a leggerlo. Non so, qualcosa continuava a farmelo lasciare da parte. A dedicarmi ad altro. Non so dirvi veramente cosa fosse. Forse la trama non troppo entusiasmante (è uno di quei casi in cui, anche se la trama effettivamente è ben calibrata -col senno di poi- sul momento non attira molto l’interesse di un possibile lettore. O comunque per me è stato così), o la copertina che per tanto sia carina non è che mi piacesse (e piaccia) molto. Ora continua a rinfacciarmelo…Weirde intendo…anche perchè è la seconda volta in poco tempo. Lo stesso è successo con la serie Psy-Changeling della Singh. Ragazzi! Bellissima anche quella. Da malata quale sono l’ho iniziata dal 10° romanzo perchè mi è capitato per caso di leggere il primo capitolo. Ovviamente ora la stò leggendo tutta (ho raggiunto il terzo volume e non sento assolutamente di aver fatto un errore a partire dal 10°). 😉
Vabbè, parliamo nello specifico del romanzo prima che vi subissi di squitti da fangirl.
Come avrete notato, è un romanzo in inglese e ad oggi non c’è traccia di versione italiana. Mi spiace per chi non ha la possibilità di leggerlo…speriamo che qualche casa editrice se ne accorga e provi la pubblicazione. E’ vero che è il primo di una serie, ma ogni romanzo ha protaginisti diversi e anche se i romanzi sono collegati “storicamente” l’uno all’altro, niente vieta che li si possa leggere a sè stante…se non altro questo primo. 😉

la storia

Pia è una ragazza dalla bellezza eterea, intelligente ed…eternamente in fuga. Sua madre, l’unica parente che aveva e che ormai è morta da tempo, le ha insegnato la necessità di mantenere un basso profilo. Di non lasciare tracce di se, di essere sempre pronta ad una fuga improvvisa, sempre con un piano di riserva pronto. E Pia ha fatto di questi precetti il suo stile di vita. Non sa bene il perchè, ma continua a nascondersi dal mondo come la sua adorata e bellissima madre le ha insegnato a fare.
Finchè un grave errore di giudizio non la mette nei guai…enormi e ruggenti guai.
Pia infatti ha riposto la sua fiducia nella persona sbagliata: il suo completamente-idota-giocatore d’azzardo-ex-fidanzato che, per salvarsi la pellaccia e nel frattempo provare a guadagnarci pure qualcosa, spiffera nell’orecchio sbagliato del qualcuno sbagliato il raro ed unico talento di Pia.
Nessun lucchetto la può tenere rinchiusa.
Pia si ritrova quindi ricattata a compiere un atto che va non solo contro i suoi principi morali, ma anche contro il suo vero e più profondo essere (che al momento le stà urlando di scappare a gambe levate e il più lontano possibile).
Entra quindi nella tana dove è nascosto il più grande e splendente tesoro del mondo.
Un tesoro di proprietà di uno dei più antichi e potenti dei Wyr: Dragos Cuelebre. Il primo ed unico drago del mondo.
Un personaggio che è riuscito a costruirsi un impero finanziario impressionante…a pari grandezza, se non superiore, di quello dei Fae Oscuri suoi odiati nemici…e non di certo grazie alla propria bontà d’animo.
Pia, per ridurre il danno, di tutto il tesoro decide di rubare una semplice e “stupida” monetina che rimpiazza prontamente con una delle sue sperando così di fare ammenda. E lascia anche una nota, scritta su un pezzetto di carta, chiedendo scusa del gesto.
Non ci vuole molto però perchè Drogo senta fisicamente, anche se a notevole distanza, che un’intruso è riuscito ad entrare nel suo covo che avrebbe dovuto essere nascosto e inaccessibile a chiunque.
La sua rabbia è intensa e immediata, tanto che il potente ruggito che emette scatena una quantità di incidenti mai visto prima in città. La caccia all’intruso parte immediata e l’intento è sicuramente omicida. Ma non ci vorrà molto perchè Drago scovi la sua preda e decida che la punizione più appropriata sia di legarla a sè il più strettamente possibile.

conclusione

Dragon Bound è il miglior romanzo di genere paranormal romance che ho avuto il piacere di leggere ultimamente. Tra i più avvincenti, ricco di colpi di scena e dolce che possiate trovare. Ha tutti i canoni “base” che volete (e devono essere) in questi romanzi, ma tanto altro ancora. Consigliato al 100%!
