Il passato week-end mi sono “data allo sport” XD leggendo il primo romanzo di questa serie.
Jaci Burton, autrice americana di romance, ha al suo attivo una sessantina di romanzi e si è trovata spesso in coppia con Lora Leigh (che conosciamo per la sua serie Tempting Seals, attualmente pubblicata da Mondadori, e per la serie Breeds, pubblicata da Leggereditore) in antologie dall’alto contenuto erotico.
La serie Palay-by-Play composta da sei romanzi (tre dei quali ancora da pubblicare), come chiaramente si intuisce dal nome, è una serie che -libro dopo libro- ha come filo conduttore lo sport. Dal primo romanzo dedicato al football, al secondo per il baseball, al terzo con l’hockey e via dicendo.
Oltre a questo, ha un secondo filo conduttore dato dal fatto che i protagonisti sono (almeno nei primi tre romanzi) i fratelli Riley: Mick, Gavin e Jenna.
Ma venendo al dunque…

E’ un pò strano da dire, ma questo romanzo è bellissimo per la parte di trama nuda e cruda, per quanto riguarda il background dei due protagonisti e per come l’autrice li ha saputi rendere completi, veri…a tutto tondo.
Ma perde molto nella parte erotic romance. Per essere più chiari, “il troppo sesso stroppia”.
Troppe scene di sesso e troppo dettagliate. Ne sarebbe bastata la metà per renderlo un romanzo veramente completo e soddisfacente in ogni punto.
Come dicevo, i personaggi non sono i soliti stereotipati.
Si, il protagonista e una montagna d’uomo con due bellissimi occhi azzurri. Il football è la sua vita e le luci del jet set fanno parte della quotidianità. Ma è anche un uomo normale e vero, con una famiglia che lo ama e lo supporta. Con un passato difficile da cui ha saputo uscire alla grande.
Lo stesso vale per la lei di turno.
Tara ha aperto un’attività di event planner da circa un anno ed è una giovane madre single che ha dovuto cavarsela da sola fin da quando, a quindici anni, i genitori l’hanno buttata fuori casa dopo aver scoperto che era rimasta incinta.
Non ha alcuna intenzione, viste poi le passate esperienze, di avere una relazione seria e duratura con chicchessia.
Quello su cui vuole concentrarsi è il lavoro e il figlio quattordicenne, Nathan.
Nell’equazione non è previsto un grosso giocatore di football, che però l’attrae come nessun altro. E dall’altra parte anche Mick non ha alcuna intenzione di iniziare una relazione stabile proprio ora che, a trent’anni, comincia ad avvertire la pressione dei giovani giocatori desiderosi di prendere il suo posto nella squadra.
Detto questo, presto proseguirò nella lettura dei prossimi due titoli e saprò dirvi se le cose evolveranno in meglio o meno. 😉
